Cross Country Coach, Inc. was a charter bus service in Milford, Connecticut, which received subsidies from the State Of Connecticut Dept. Of Transportation to operate a regional bus route between New Haven and Norwalk, Ct. via US Rt. One during the 1970s and early 1980s, following the demise of CR & L Lines in Bridgeport, Connecticut- which operated two separate bus routes between Bridgeport-Norwalk and Bridgeport-New Haven, both with hourly service until 1972. Cross Country Coach used refurbished older General Motors bus models salvaged from CR & L, which were not well-maintained, providing less than comfortable travel. These former CR & L buses also broke down frequently, causing the company to use either its coach buses or school buses. (This contributing writer attests to this fact). Unlike CR & L Lines, Cross Country Coach had a transfer agreement with Bridgeport's other bus operators. The company ceased full operations in the early 1980s, leaving a major gap in bus service directly linking Bridgeport with Milford, Orange, West Haven's northern sector, New Haven, Westport, and Norwalk. New Haven's Connecticut Transit division now operates 20-30 minute service between New Haven and Milford's Connecticut Post Mall via US Rt. One, connecting with "Coastal Link" ("CL" route designation)- operating jointly by Greater Bridgeport Transit Authority, and the transit districts of Milford and Norwalk (a.k.a. "Wheels") at 20-60 min. intervals between the Milford Mall and Norwalk via Stratford, Bridgeport, Fairfield, and Westport. The Milford Transit District (MTD) was formed in 1977, partially restoring some of the bus service abandoned by C R & L in the southwestern sections of the city- including US Rt. One, Naugatuck Ave., Milford Point Rd., Walnut Beach, Meadowside Rd., and Surf Ave. It offers service links between Connecticut Transit's two bus routes from the mall or Downtown Milford with Greater Bridgeport Transit District (now 'Authority': GBTA) bus routes at The Dock Shopping Center in Stratford.
As of 2016, MTD continues to operate three bus routes covering generally the central and southern shoreline neighborhoods , while also jointly operating the "Coastal Link' regional bus route with GBTA and The Norwalk Transit District ('Wheels') between Milford's Connecticut Post Mall and Norwalk.
