Tenleytown-American University is a Washington Metro station in Washington, DC on the Red Line. It is the last station wholly within the District of Columbia, before the Red Line enters Montgomery County, Maryland.
As its name indicates, Tenleytown-AU serves the neighborhood of Tenleytown, and American University, part of which is situated at Tenley Circle and whose main campus is located roughly one mile (1.67km) west of the actual station. The University operates a shuttle bus between main campus and the station.
The station is located on the 4500 block of Wisconsin Avenue at Albemarle Street, NW, with exits on either side of Wisconsin Avenue. Service began on August 25, 1984, when the Red Line inaugurated service to Grosvenor.
Originally, the station was named simply "Tenley Circle"; however, American University paid WMATA to change the name for public relations purposes.
